Guardrails — Budget

Review global budget state and edit the daily budget only.

What this page is for

The Budget tab shows the workspace budget posture and provides one focused control: editing the daily budget. It deliberately redirects deeper governance work to Budget Owners and Caps.

Who uses it

  • Finance users
  • Workspace admins
  • Platform owners

What you see

  • Global budget status from usage status: ok, at-risk, over, or no budget.
  • Daily budget from dailyBudgetCents.
  • Monthly budget from monthlyBudgetCents, shown as a derived value.
  • Caps summary with near and reached counts.
  • Governance links to Budget Owners and Caps.

What you can do

  • Edit dailyBudgetUsd.
  • Save the daily budget.
  • Reset local edits.
  • Clear the field to disable the daily budget.
  • Open Budget Owners or Caps while preserving current query parameters.

Permissions and safety

  • Editing is disabled when the page is read-only.
  • Editing is also disabled when canEditBudgets is false.
  • Read-only users can still inspect the budget status and governance links.

Operational notes

  • The tab does not calculate the status; it reads data.usage.status.
  • Valid input accepts empty, integers, one decimal, two decimals, and comma decimals.
  • Invalid values include negative amounts, text, more than two decimals, and leading decimal formats such as .50.
  • Only dailyBudgetCents is sent to the backend.
  • Successful saves invalidate the policies query and refetch fresh data.

What this page is not for

  • Editing monthly budgets.
  • Editing caps.
  • Editing budget owners.
  • Showing detailed consumption charts.
  • Explaining spend drivers.

  5. Apply changes only when the impact is clear.
  6. Re-check the page after the backend refreshes.
  7. Export or copy IDs when you need to escalate.
